Depart Sooner, Improvise More

Be very careful when you talk about your plans.

Great things rarely happen without verbalizing intentions, but it’s easy to allow the act of planning to replace the planned act. Planning invites laziness and fear. Trust yourself to make the right move. “The objective is to fix mistakes of ambition and not make mistakes of sloth.”

The best thing you can hope for is to run out of time going down the right road. Talk and plans have all the substance of packing your bags.

The world knows that talk is cheap, but you’ve described what I’ve long suspected: talk cheapens.

Our core is ineffable. We can attempt to paint it using words, but each time we set up the easel for an interested soul our pallet’s colors fade a little more. Not to the world, but to ourselves. In time we are left with a shell of words around a idea divorced, the hermit crab has fled the nautilus.

So feel, love, care, look, and abosrb – and use words with the thrift of old Vermonters.
