Education: The Investment With A Guaranteed Return?

Discretionary purchases may seem less allowable just because they aren’t strictly necessary. But not all unnecessary purchases are created equally.
That I can say ‘no’ to an expense doesn’t mean that ‘yes’ wouldn’t be just as appropriate as it is to the parts of my budget that I don’t question. Especially if it might change my life…

You limit your purchases to thing like eating and buying toothpaste and nothing ever changes. Imagine spending even 5% of what you ‘have’ to spend on things that you absolutely don’t need, but that will grow and enrich your life…. Things like educating yourself, or re-education.

Spending is not a substitute for taking action, but there’s a synergy in combining discretionary spending with discretionary action. I wonder if sometimes we don’t spend money on this kind of ‘extra’ because of the action it might require that we take.
