Racing Down Your Own Road

by admin on November 7, 2008

You’ll soon realize, once you are free from employment, that you want activity anyway, that total inactivity equals death, and that the only difference between your new ‘activities’ and your old ‘occupation’ is that you are choosing your day.
‘Retirement’ is a concept for stuck people who only get a week or two of freedom per year. Stopping sounds good to someone who dreads the direction they are going, the thing in which they are engaged, naturally. But what if you did not dread it? Inactivity is not a goal, for me; pouring energy into something that I believe in is as natural and positive as breathing. I enjoy not ‘going to work’, but what I enjoy even more is choosing the day I want to live: all the implications of freedom that I’ve earned and which I cultivate. ‘Not doing’ is certainly not part of the picture. Most people that I know who have relocated to Bali from the West are doing things that brings in some money, even if they don’t really need it. Usually they look pretty busy!
When all your time is your own, that’s when it really gets interesting. Make it get interesting.
